Rods White Slip Textured Wood Fired Bud Vase

$40.00

This is an adorable little wood fired vase; it's a quietly strong bud vase, with a playful lavender blue interior. It's a nice size for a few flower buds or treasured feathers, but this piece is striking enough on it's own to spruce up any small space, even without flowers.

The vase stands 6" tall, it's 2 3/4" wide across the lip, and a bit over 3" wide at the belly. The interior was glazed in rutile glaze, which produces pretty, watery swirls of lavender blue. The outside of the vase was left bare, so the atmosphere of the wood burning kiln could leave it's mark on the bare clay.

All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.

This piece was created on my pottery wheel using Laguna Rods Bod clay. A layer of white slip (a white clay blended with water) was painted around the belly of the pot while it was still wet on the wheel. I used a jagged brush to add some texture in through the slip. Then I used the rounded wooden end of that brush to press a swirl in through the white slip. The interior and lip of the vase was glazed in Rutile glaze.

***Wood firing pottery is a traditional method where pottery is fired in a kiln fueled solely by wood, resulting in unique colors, textures, and patterns due to the interaction of flame and ash with the clay surfaces. The process infuses every piece with both the warmth of the fire and the community effort involved in firing the wood kiln. ***
