Rods Soda Fired Textured and Swirled Bud Vase

$38.00

This is a gorgeous piece with an earthy and rich finish. It would be a perfect bookshelf vase, or it could perk up a bathroom, an office or a small side table without taking up much space. Of course it would be an excellent home for a few pretty flowers or feathers, bright colors would stand out beautifully against the rich neutral backdrop of this vase.

The texture was created by applying a layer of white BMix slip over the surface of the pot, and dragging a jagged brush through the wet slip as it was slowly spinning on the potters wheel. Then, using a rib, I carved the swirl shape in through the wet slip.

The vase was glazed in Tenmoku glaze inside, over the lip and down the neck. From the shoulder down, the pot was left unglazed. This piece was soda fired, meaning a soda mix was introduced into the kiln at high temperature. This creates a vapor that combines with the silica in the clay's surface to create it's own glaze. This firing method really highlights the texture and colors of the clay.

This vase stands 5 3/4" tall, measures 3 1/2" wide at the shoulder, and it's 2 1/2" across lip. My pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.
