Rods Bod Wood Fired Mug with Emily Purple Liner

$45.00

This rustic Rods Bod Wood Fired Mug would be fantastic for every day use. It is a nice size for coffee or tea lovers, and it has a nice wide mouth - all the better for dipping biscotti or cookies. The mug has a hand formed handle, rounded to a comfortable shape - it feels nice in your hand, whether held by the handle or the cup.

The mug stands a bit over 4.75 inches and it's about 4 inches wide at the lip. It easily holds 12 ounces, a great size for coffee or tea lovers (it holds about 13 oz when filled to the rim). All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.

This was made with Rods Bod clay, the swirl shape is added while the cup is wet on the pottery wheel. It’s created by pressing from the outside of the cup with a rib, and from the inside with my fingers, moving upwards along the cup as it spins on the pottery wheel. The mug was glazed in Emily Purple on the inside and around the rim. The outer mug was left bare and the piece was wood fired. The atmosphere created by the burning wood in the kiln helped to create the deep and varied rustic brown coloring around the mug, with a few light golden splatters of melted wood ash around the handle.

Wood fired pottery is extra special and truly unique! You can learn a little more about wood firing in my blog, check out this post: The Spring 2023 Firing of Puff the Desert Dragon Wood Kiln
