Wood Fired Crock with Emily Purple Interior

$90.00

This bold and beautiful crock will look gorgeous on any countertop. It's really meant to be a multi-purpose pot - it could be a spoon crock, or a wine chiller, or possibly a vase for a wide bouquet of flowers. It can even be warmed in an oven to help keep food hot.

The crock stands 7 1/2 inches tall, measures 5 1/2" across the lip, and about 5 3/4" at the widest part of the shoulder. The interior and lip is glazed in Emily Purple, a strong and regal hue that can include some subtle flecks of gold when wood fired. The purple glazed rim really stands out against the rich brown clay, and the golden spray of wood ash on one side of the shoulder and neck.

This piece was made using Laguna Rods Bod clay. The swirl shape was pressed into the pot with a rib from the outside, and supported by my fingers from the inside. The rib and my fingers were moved upward as the wet pot spun swiftly on the wheel.

***Wood firing pottery is a traditional method where pottery is fired in a kiln fueled solely by wood, resulting in unique colors, textures, and patterns due to the interaction of flame and ash with the clay surfaces. The process infuses every piece with both the warmth of the fire and the community effort involved in firing the wood kiln. ***
