Rutile and Blue Slipped Zigzag Bud Vase

This handmade ceramic bud vase has a rounded, organic shape with a softly flared rim and a generous belly that gives the small vessel a surprisingly substantial presence. Rich blue and purple glaze moves across warm, earthy tones, while the contrasting blue slipped area on the belly adds an expressive element to the surface.

At 5.5 inches tall, this vase is sized to showcase a few favorite stems without overwhelming them. The combination of its compact proportions, tactile surface, and varied glaze makes it a lovely little accent even when it isn't holding flowers.

Details
The vase stands approximately 5.5" tall and measures about 2.75" across the lip. At the widest part of the belly it's about 3.5", and the base is 2.5" wide. The inner opening at the neck is nearly 1.5" across at the smallest point, small enough for a single bud while having room for a small bouquet.

Use
Designed for displaying a few favorite flowers or individual stems, this bud vase is especially nice for small, loose arrangements, garden cuttings, or a single dramatic bloom. They can also be enjoyed simply as decorative objects – their compact size makes them easy to tuck onto a shelf, bedside table, desk, or other small space.

Process
I created this vase on my potter's wheel using Sonora White clay, an off-white stoneware. I flattened the belly on opposite sides of the vase, and painted a patch of blue slip (a creamy blend of clay, water and stain) on either side. A few expressive strokes were added through the slip to create movement, and a little texture for the rutile glaze to flow around. The vase was glazed in golden tan Goldspot glaze on the interior, and transparent Rutile glaze on the exterior.

The mug stands around 4.75 inches tall, and just over 3 inches across the lip. They hold around 12 ounces, and all of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.

Blue and Tan Rutile Planter with Drainage

This handmade ceramic planter has a dramatic, sculptural shape, with a deep cobalt blue glaze that contrasts beautifully with the lighter blue and earthy tones around the rim. The piece is wheel-thrown from Rods Bod clay and fired to cone 10 in reduction, creating a rich, layered finish that gives this planter plenty of character. This planter stands 5.75" tall, and measures 5.75" across the lip. It's approximately 4.5" wide at the base. The interior depth is about 5.5", with the bottom 1.75" narrowed to create some height. The pot includes two drainage holes, each about the size of a large bean, which drain into the attached plate.

Use
This planter makes a beautiful addition to a sunny windowsill, desk, or bookshelf. It’s suitable for indoor or outdoor use, making it a great option for a patio or porch. It's well-suited for houseplants, succulents, cacti, or herbs.

Details
Standing 6.25" tall (without the spout), this bottle is crafted from durable BMix, a smooth white stoneware clay. The glossy blue and rutile glazes enhance its smooth surface, while the subtle swirl in the form make it very comfortable to grasp and use. The bottle measures nearly 3.5" across it's widest point, and it holds 14 ounces (around 420 ml) when full. I'll include both a plastic and metal spout with the piece, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Fired in a cone 10 reduction kiln, the glaze takes on a depth and softness unique to this firing process. The piece is food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe, designed for everyday use.

Use
This bottle works beautifully for serving olive oil, vinegar, or syrups, and it can also double as a small vase for fresh greenery or flowers. Its timeless design makes it as useful as it is decorative.

These one-of-a-kind mugs feature a slip textured surface with a fresh combination of soft robin's egg blue and bold cobalt blue.
