Blue Rutile Planter Pot with Drainage
Blue Rutile Planter Pot with Drainage
Deep blue and warm brown tones meet soft swirls of lavender in this elegant wheel-thrown planter. Finished in a layered Woo Blue and Purple Rutile glaze combination, this piece has a rich, atmospheric surface that shifts with the light. Built-in drainage holes and an attached saucer make it easy to care for your plants while keeping your space clean.
The wide lip and rounded profile give the form a generous, welcoming feel; perfect for showcasing a favorite plant while adding a subtle statement to your space.
Details
This planter measures approximately 3.75" tall and 5.75" wide at the lip, with a base about 4" across and an interior depth of roughly 3.5", narrowing slightly toward the bottom. It was crafted from Sonoran White, a creamy white stoneware clay, and fired to cone 10 in reduction. Two drainage holes are built into the base to promote healthy drainage.
Use
A great choice for small- to medium-sized plants such as ferns, pothos, or trailing vines. The layered glaze tones complement green foliage beautifully and make this piece a natural fit for a windowsill, shelf, or patio.
Process
This planter was thrown on my potter’s wheel using Sonoran White stoneware. After bisque firing, Woo Blue glaze was applied from the base upward, stopping just below the rim. The upper portion was then dipped in Purple Rutile glaze. In cone 10 reduction firing, these layered glazes interact to create soft, fluid transitions of blue, brown, and lavender. The combination of clay, glaze, and firing atmosphere ensures that each piece is truly one of a kind.
