Rutile Blue Keepsake Jar
This handmade ceramic lidded jar features layered blues, warm tans, and soft lavender undertones that shift and flow across the surface. The rounded form and gently domed lid create a classic silhouette, while the rich rutile glaze flowing over the blue slip makes this a beautiful functional vessel as well as a decorative accent.

Details
The jar stands approximately 4.75" tall, including the knobbed lid, and about 3.25" tall without it. It measures roughly 3.25" wide and has an inner opening of approximately 2.5". The jar holds about 1 cup (8 ounces). All of my pottery is food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe.
Use
Perfect for storing sugar, loose tea, salt, spices, candy, garlic cloves, jewelry, cotton rounds, small keepsakes, or other treasured items. Its versatile size makes it equally at home in the kitchen, bathroom, office, or living space.
Process
The jar was created on my pottery wheel using Sonoran White clay, a light stoneware. The jar's lid and body were thrown as a single, enclosed piece. The lid was cut away from the body, and each side was trimmed to fit. I painted a layer of blue slip (clay, cobalt stain, and water blended smooth) around the outside of the jar and lid to add a rich blue backdrop of color to the outer surface of the jar.
The interior of the jar was glazed in Goldspot glaze, a rich golden tan, and the exterior was glazed in Rutile, a transparent glaze that shows variations of blue and purple where the glaze is thickest. This piece was fired to cone 10 in an oxygen reduced atmosphere.
