Woo Blue and Rutile Bowl with Foot
Woo Blue and Rutile Bowl with Foot
This handmade ceramic footed bowl features deep blues, warm earthy browns, and subtle flashes of lighter blue where the glazes break and mingle. The elevated foot gives the piece an elegant, pedestal-like presence, while the wide, open form makes it as practical as it is beautiful. Layers of glaze create depth and movement across the outer surface, giving the bowl a rich, atmospheric quality that invites closer inspection.
Whether used for serving, display, or everyday rituals, this bowl brings a handcrafted warmth to the table. The combination of the broad rim and raised foot creates a balanced, timeless form that feels equally at home in rustic, modern, or eclectic spaces.
Details
The bowl measures approximately 7" across the lip and stands about 3.5" tall overall. The bowl itself is roughly 2.25" deep and sits atop a footed base measuring approximately 4.5" across and 1.5" tall. It holds about 2½ cups (20 ounces) of liquid. All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.
Use
Perfect for serving snacks, berries, side dishes, soups, ice cream, pasta, or small salads. The elevated foot adds visual interest for entertaining while also making the bowl a beautiful centerpiece for fruit, decorative objects, or seasonal displays. Its versatile size and timeless shape make it a piece you'll reach for often, whether setting the table for guests or enjoying a quiet meal at home.
Process
This piece was thrown on my potter's wheel using Sonoran White stoneware clay. After the bowl was thrown, I let it dry partially to 'leather hard'. I then flipped the bowl over and reattached it to the center of the wheel. I then added a wet ring of clay to the bottom and threw the stem directly off the upside down bowl.
After it was dried and bisque fired, the bowls interior was glazed in Goldspot glaze, while the exterior and lip was glazed in Woo Blue glaze, a deep blue glaze that breaks to a rich brown over texture. A second layer of Rutile glaze was applied over the rim and outer bowl, up to the foot, adding some glossy swirls of lavender blue. This piece was fired to cone 10 in an oxygen reduced atmosphere.
