Green and Midnight Swirl Planter with Drainage

This handmade ceramic planter has a rich, moody color combination of peacock green and midnight blue, with a glossy finish that shifts between deep teal and blue-black. Its gently flared, swirling form gives the piece a sense of movement, while the subtle variations in color add depth and character.

Wheel-thrown in stoneware and fired to cone 6, this one-of-a-kind planter makes a striking home for a favorite houseplant. Its sculptural shape and jewel-toned glaze also make it an attractive accent for a plant shelf, windowsill, or any spot that could use a little color and handmade character.

Details
Measuring approximately 4.5" tall and 5.5" across the lip. The planter is 4.75" deep on the interior, with the bottom 1.5" inches narrowed. The base is approximately 4.25" across, and the interior is unglazed. Two drainage holes - each about the size of a fingertip - are built into the narrowed base to promote drainage. The planter includes a permanently attached drainage plate.

Use
Ideal for small-medium sized houseplants or succulents, this planter offers both function and style. Its built-in drainage ensures healthy roots while keeping tabletops and shelves dry.

Process

This planter was thrown on my potter's wheel using white BMix Cone 5 clay. While still soft on the wheel, I pressed a swirl shape into the sides using a rib tool, while gently supporting the inner wall with my fingers.

The white stoneware body is layered with a deep green glaze that accentuates the piece’s gentle spiral form. Fired to cone 6 (around 2200° F) for strength and durability.

The mug stands around 4.75 inches tall, and just over 3 inches across the lip. They hold around 12 ounces, and all of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.

Details
Standing 6.25" tall (without the spout), this bottle is crafted from durable BMix, a smooth white stoneware clay. The glossy blue and rutile glazes enhance its smooth surface, while the subtle swirl in the form make it very comfortable to grasp and use. The bottle measures nearly 3.5" across it's widest point, and it holds 14 ounces (around 420 ml) when full. I'll include both a plastic and metal spout with the piece, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Fired in a cone 10 reduction kiln, the glaze takes on a depth and softness unique to this firing process. The piece is food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe, designed for everyday use.

Robins Egg Blue Green Splattered Textured Mug 14 oz

These one-of-a-kind mugs feature a slip textured surface with a fresh combination of soft robin's egg blue and bold cobalt blue. The transparent robins egg glaze lets the layers of blue slip show through, while the splattered areas add loose, spontaneous marks across the surface. At about 14 ounces, this is the larger version of my textured mug with a wide, bowl-like shape that makes it especially versatile. It's a generous mug for coffee, tea, or your favorite everyday drink, but the shape also works beautifully as a small soup bowl, dessert bowl, or snack bowl.
