Rutile and Goldspot Short Textured Mugs

from $32.00

This set of handmade stoneware mugs features a dynamic glaze surface where layered blues and warm earthy tones interact across a softly textured form. Wheel thrown and finished with a comfortable hand-pulled handle, these smaller 9-ounce mugs offer an intimate, tactile drinking experience. Subtle variations in glaze and surface make each piece unique, reflecting the movement of the kiln and the handmade process.

Use
These mugs are perfect for a smaller, more intentional cup - ideal for espresso drinks, tea, or a quick morning coffee. Their size makes them especially suited for cappuccinos, cortados, or an afternoon warm drink, encouraging a slower, more relaxed ritual. They also work wonderfully for kids’ drinks or as a cozy companion cup alongside a larger mug.

Details
These mugs all stand around 3.25 inches tall, and 3 inches across the lip. They hold 9 ounces, and all of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.

Process
These mugs were made with Rods Bod clay on my potter's wheel. A white slip (a blend of water and white clay) was applied to the outside of the mug while it was still wet on the wheel. To create the texture, a ragged brush was drug through the wet slip as the cup slowly spun on the wheel.

The mugs were glazed with Goldspot glaze on the interior, and around the top of the cups. Rutile glaze was added over the entire outside.
