True Blue Planter with Drainage

$40.00

This striking wheel-thrown planter features a rich royal blue glaze that wraps gracefully around its form. The color is deep and luminous, creating a beautiful contrast against the smooth white stoneware beneath. Its curving silhouette and integrated drainage plate make it as practical as it is elegant.

Details
Measuring approximately 4½" tall and 5½" across the lip, this planter includes two large drainage holes—each about the size of a kidney bean—and a permanently attached drainage plate.

The white stoneware body is layered with a deep true-blue glaze that accentuates the piece’s gentle spiral form. Fired to cone 6 (around 2200° F) for strength and durability.

Use
Ideal for medium-sized houseplants or succulents, this planter offers both function and style. Its built-in drainage ensures healthy roots while keeping tabletops and shelves dry. The bold blue glaze makes it a beautiful statement piece for any home.

Process

This planter was thrown on my potter's wheel using white BMix Cone 5 clay. While still soft on the wheel, I pressed a swirl shape into the sides using a rib tool, while gently supporting the inner wall with my fingers. It was finished with a deep blue glaze that flows smoothly over the curves, highlighting the movement in the clay. Fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln to bring out the rich, glossy finish.
