Process
This planter was made on my potter’s wheel using a white stoneware clay. A layer of blue slip (a mix of clay, water and blue ceramic stain) was applied with a brush to create the soft blue. After bisque firing, the planter was glazed with rutile, a warm transparent glaze with flashes of lavender where the glaze is thickest. The piece was then reduction-fired to Cone 10 (around 2400°F) at Desert Dragon Pottery in North Phoenix.
