Rutile Blue Tall Textured Vase

$62.00

This tall handmade ceramic vase features layered blues, warm tans, and earthy neutrals flowing across a sculptural wheel-thrown form. The rounded belly is wrapped in a liquid texture of white clay that contrasts nicely with the dark stoneware beneath it, while the narrowed neck and softly flared lip create an elegant silhouette suited for floral arrangements or standalone display. The glaze combination produces rich variation and depth, with deep blue tones blending into softer muted hues that evoke natural landscapes and atmospheric firings.

Standing nearly 10 inches tall, this vase makes a striking statement while remaining versatile enough for everyday use. The narrowed opening helps support stems naturally, making it ideal for fresh flowers, dried arrangements, branches, or seasonal cuttings.

Details
The vase measures approximately 9.75" tall, 4.25" wide across the lip, and about 5.5" wide at the widest part of the belly. The inner opening measures a bit over 2", allowing for easy arranging while still helping hold stems upright. All of my pottery is food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe.

Use
Perfect for fresh bouquets, dried florals, eucalyptus, branches, or as a sculptural decorative piece on its own. The earthy blue and tan palette pairs beautifully with rustic, modern organic, farmhouse, wabi-sabi, or eclectic interiors.

Process
This vase was wheel thrown using Rods Bod dark stoneware clay. White BMix clay was applied around the belly to create the textured banding, adding contrast and visual depth to the form. The interior and upper rim were glazed with golden tan Goldspot glaze, while the exterior was layered with Rutile glaze to produce the flowing blues, tans, and atmospheric variation throughout the surface. The piece was fired to cone 10 in a reduced oxygen atmosphere, enhancing the depth and movement within the glazes.
