Process
This pot was thrown on my potter's wheel using Laguna Rods Bod clay. A thick layer of brown iron oxide slip (clay and water blended smooth) was painted around the body of the pot, and a jagged brush was used to add some texture through the slip. A rounded rubber rib was used to press the swirl shape into the pot, through the wet slip, as the crock spun on the wheel.
The interior and top few inches of this piece was glazed in Goldspot. The exterior was glazed with Rutile, stopping just about an inch from the lip, leaving a band of the golden tan Goldspot around the top. The crock was fired to cone 10 (around 2400° F) in a reduced oxygen atmosphere.
