Blue Green Ceramic Planter with Drainage and Saucer

$40.00

Add some handcrafted beauty to your space with this wheel-thrown ceramic planter. Sized at approximately 4.5 inches wide at the lip, this cheerful pot is ideal for a favorite succulent, herb, or small leafy friend. Built-in drainage holes and an attached saucer help keep your plants happy and your shelves tidy.

This one-of-a-kind planter is glazed in my Blue Green and Rutile glazes, resulting in a striking deep teal surface with foamy swirls of white and blue. The color and shape offer a vibrant yet versatile backdrop for many types of plants. The form tapers slightly at the base, resting on a raised foot that gives the piece both height and presence.

Process
The planter was made on my potter’s wheel using a stoneware clay. A swirl was added to the wet form to give the shape movement and texture. A drainage galley was thrown around the bottom of the pot, and two drainage holes were added at the base. The entire exterior and saucer were glazed with my Blue Green glaze, and the top two-thirds of the planter were layered with Rutile, which creates the soft, foamy swirls of blue and white over the deep teal green.

This piece was fired to Cone 10 in reduction at Desert Dragon Pottery in North Phoenix.
